   The Kanagawa Prefectural Institute of Public Health was established as a scientific and technical research center for the improvement of public health.
   Since the establishment of the Institute, it has contributed a great deal to the promotion of the public health through examination, research, and training by experts in each specialized field using advanced technology.


History

Ever since this institute was first established in 1902, many topics have been challenged during our history of more than a century.
             
1902 November Started as Pest Laboratory in Naka-ku, Yokohama.
1937 March Renamed as Kanagawa Prefectural Public Health Laboratory in Minami-ku, Yokohama.
1948 September Started as Kanagawa Prefectural Institute of Public Health based on the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
1964 March Moved to and rebuilt in Asahi-ku, Yokohama.
1972 April An adjoining building is constructed.
2003 June Moved to and rebuilt in Shimomachiya, Chigasaki.

Tasks

The affairs of the Planning and Coordination Section:
  1. The Planning and Coordination Section conducts affairs regarding planning and coordinating research plans for surveillance、research and examination tests. It advances research in collaboration with other research laboratories and also forms the basis for research.
  2. Work is done according to the evaluation given by external evaluation on research topics and management.
  3. Compiles the results of surveillance, research and examination tests into research reports ,and research presenntations.
  4. Practical business training is conducted to be able to provide the latest on technological information and knowledge to the staffs in charge of public health administration and hygiene inspection of the municipalities.
  5. Information and knowledge concerning public health is provided for the citizens of the prefecture as well as making facilities open to the public ( panel displays ) and holding extension lectures in order to popularize the results of the research being conducted. During the summer holidays, an opportunity for Junior High School students is created to actually experience some of the research done at the institute.
  6. To secure the reliability of the examination and inspection in prefectural food health inspection facilities, the institutions are inspected on a regular basis.
